Cars: the prequel

I love Pixar, but their latest feature is nowhere as radical as this little gem from 1952. It never ceizes to amaze me how far Tex Avery pushed his animation. And what a wonderful ending!

UPDATE:
Well, this post seems to have kickstarted a spontaneous Tex Avery blog-a-thon! For more Tex, visit these links:

Wow. That was wonderful, and so sweet. I still love CARS, but it reminds me that I need to see a lot more Tex Avery.

Welcome, Little Round-Headed Boy! Glad to see you here. For more Tex Avery, go to YouTube.com and type in “Tex Avery”. A lot of cartoons have been erased there recently because of copyright enfringement (even if some of the deleted shorts fell under the public domain!). Too bad, because YouTube is actually great low-res advertisement, if you think about it. Apart from that, it offers people like us the chance to view unreleased material–among them being Avery’s shorts for MGM and Walter Lantz.

Peet: Here’s my favorite Avery– “Rock-a-Bye bear” One of the questions on my quiz is “Which film have you pushed on more people than any other?” I think one of mine has to be this little gem. Enjoy!

By the way, Avery’s cars are one of my earliest memories of cartoons that weren’t specifcally Saturday-morning-related. Thanks for reminding me just how great this short really is!

Okay, all three of you guys posting the Avery cartoons, I was gonna let this lie after seeing the first two posts, but now I have to add in with my favorite over at my blog.

If you haven’t yet sampled the wonder of Avery’s Magical Maestro, though I assume you have, check it out at You Tube or over at my place.

    Thanks for bringing this up.
